Probability and Statistics: Statistical Societies
A probability distribution is a table or an equation that links each outcome of a statistical experiment with its probability of occurrence.
The American Statistical Association is the world’s largest community of statisticians, the "Big Tent for Statistics." The ASA supports excellence in the development, application, and dissemination of statistical science through meetings, publications, membership services, education, accreditation, and advocacy.
The Society was founded in 1962 as a national “umbrella” organisation to support and further the work of state statistical societies already in existence, to establish a national journal and newsletter and to host national conferences.
The national Society now represents Australian and overseas statisticians with state branches in six states and territories providing the focus and organisation of local activities. The overall objective of the Society is to further the study, application and good practice of statistical theory and methods in all branches of learning and enterprise.
The Association was officially founded at the 1987 Joint Statistical Meetings in San Francisco, CA. The ICSA was incoporated in Delaware on August 8, 1988 then registered with the US federal government as a non-profit organization. Its membership is open to all individuals and organizations in all statistics-related areas.
We are one of the world’s leading organisations to promote the importance of statistics and data, and have done so since we were founded in 1834. We’re a professional body for all statisticians and data analysts – wherever they may live.
ISOSS is open to all scholars interested in the development of statistics and its applications regardless of affiliation, origin, nationality, gender or religion. It particularly encourages statisticians from Islamic Countries to come forward to engage in cutting-edge research and professional development.
The mission of the Association is to facilitate advancement of statistical knowledge and promote applications of statistical theory in all spheres of life and hence contribute positively to the development of South Africa
