Disaster management is a process of effectively preparing for and responding to disasters. It involves strategically organizing resources to lessen the harm that disasters cause. It also involves a systematic approach to managing the responsibilities of disaster prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.
The Riphah Institute of Clinical and Professional Psychology (RICPP) was established in 2015, in order to develop a Comprehensive Training Program for Professional Psychologists in Pakistan. It focuses to expand the Role of Psychology to deal with wide range of Psychological Problems of Individuals as well as the Community at large. Crisis intervention is a short-term management technique designed to reduce potential permanent damage to an individual affected by a crisis. A crisis is defined as an overwhelming event, which can include divorce, violence, the passing of a loved one, or the discovery of a serious illness
Crisis intervention refers to methods used to offer immediate, short-term help to individuals who experience an event that produces emotional, mental, physical, and behavioral distress or problems. A crisis can be any situation in which an individual perceives a sudden loss of ability to use effective problem-solving and coping skills. Any number of events or circumstances can be considered crises, including life-threatening situations such as natural disasters (e.g., earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes), sexual assault or other criminal victimization, medical illness, mental illness, thoughts of suicide or homicide, or loss or drastic changes in relationships (e.g., death of a loved one or divorce).
