Introduction to the Basic Concepts and Teachings of the Qur’an (UR-330): Association

The Islamic Center of New England is an institution dedicated to the betterment of both Muslims and society at large and draws its strength and guidance from the Holy Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad, may the peace and blessings of Allah be bestowed upon him. It has masajid (mosques) at two sites, one in Quincy, MA and the second in Sharon, MA.
As you enter the Islamic Center of New England in Quincy, the secretary’s small office is on your right and the social hall your left. Built in 1964, the Quincy Center is the first mosque in all of New England, and the long-term dream of eight Lebanese families who came to this country in the first big wave of immigrants, more than 100 years ago. The Center is located near the Fore River Shipyard in a neighborhood called Quincy Point, where 2 generations of founding families had lived since the turn of the 20th Century.

The Islamic Society of Baltimore was established in 1969 by a handful of families who held weekly meetings and Friday prayers at Johns Hopkins University. As the community continued to grow, the need for a larger facility also grew. In 1982, more than a decade later, ISB purchased an 8-acre lot at its current location and built Masjid Al-Rahmah. Three years later, a housing complex was built adjacent to the Masjid and by 1987, and a full-time primary school had been established. Within the next ten years, ISB founded the Quran Academy and Sunday school which were in full swing just in time for the completion of the multi-purpose hall in 1997. To meet the growing needs of our community we are continuous expanding both our services, as well as our physical footprint.
The Islamic Society of Baltimore aspires to be the anchor of a growing Muslim community with diverse backgrounds, democratically governed, relating to one another with inclusiveness and tolerance, and interacting with neighbors in an Islamic exemplary manner. Maryland’s largest Islamic community with full-time K-12 school, Quran Academy, Community Health Clinic, Nursery, and more. ISB engages in regular interfaith, government relations, social services, and much more!

To revive the Islamic Renaissance through intellectual advancement of the Muslim Ummah by awarding research grants, scholarships and establishing centers of higher learning, which integrate Islamic and modern education.To promote the understanding of al-Qur'an and Hadith in the light of modern knowledge.To promote the establishment of Ijtihad to tackle modern problems facing the Muslim Ummah caused by advances in modern science & technology, genetic engineering, medical breakthroughs, etc.Anyone disagrees with any specific article, he/she may write an article with his/her opposing view points giving pertinent reference. It is the bedrock policy of IRFI to encourage Critical Thinking, Opposing Points of View and Ijtehad. Articles that support the goals of IRFI, such as Islamic Renaissance, intellectual advancement, upliftment of the Muslim Ummah, interpretation of the noble Qur'an and Sunnah in the light of modern knowledge will be published with the approval of the editorial board.
