• Etiological factors

• Incidence of cleft palate and background to the condition

• Development of the child with cleft palate.

• Developmental biology of the face and palate.

• Anatomy of oral cavity and ganto-dental development

• Relationship between mouth, teeth and articulation

• Syndromes – Pierre – Robin’s, Treacher – Collin’s ,Crouzon’s disease.

• Signs & symptoms, assessment and management of other related syndromes

• The velopharyngeal mechanism- muscles and functions.

• Type of cleft lip and cleft palate.

• Classification systems.

• Team management- composition, responsibilities, co-ordinator.

• Speech and language problems of individuals with cleft. 

• Associated problems of individuals with cleft – hearing, dental, psychosocial, physical.
