  1. Introduction: Sources: x-ray sources, electron beam sources, atom/ions, magnetic lenses.
  2. Vacuum Technology: Introduction to Vacuum Techniques, Measurement of Vacuum (gauges), Measurement of total pressure in vacuum systems, Pressure ranges, manometers, Pirani gauges, Thermistor gauges, Mass spectrometer for partial measurement of pressure, Rotary Oil pumps, Diffusion pumps, Ion pumps, Vacuum valves, vacuum Flanges, Mechanical & Electrical feed-throughs.
  3. Sensor Technology: Sensors for temperature, pressure, displacement, rotation, flow, level, speed, rotation, position, phase, current, voltage, power, magnetic field, metal explosive, and heat.
  4. Thin film deposition techniques: Physics Vapor Deposition, Sputtering Deposition, Electron Beam Evaporation, Thermal Evaporation, Pulse Laser Deposition, Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE), Chemical Vapor Deposition.
  5. Data Analysis: Accuracy and Precision, Mean Value and Variance, standard deviation, uncertainties and propagation of Errors, Binomial, Gaussian, and Poisson Distribution Statistics; Least-Squares Method to a Linear Functional Dependence; Goodness of Fit; the X² Distribution
  6. Nondestructive Techniques: Acoustic emission Testing, Electromagnetic Testing, Infrared Testing
