Course Description

This is a fundamental course, intended to deliver the understanding of how modern age machines communicate with each other. Course is focused particularly on IP based networks. Starting with a review of communication networks that common users experience in their daily life, course then explore in detail the Ethernet, Internet Protocol, Routing, Transport Protocols and Application Protocols.

Learning Objective

Students are expected to be able to:
1. Comprehend the design and architecture of the IP networks, TCP/IP communication protocol stack, Ethernet, Internet Protocol, Routing Protocols, DHCP, ARP, ICMP, TCP, UDP, DNS and HTTP Protocols.
2. Explore the activities going on in standard organizations like IEEE and IETF.
3. Demonstrate the ability to use basic networking configuration commands.
4. Demonstrate the ability to analyze the network traffic.
5. Demonstrate the ability to design and develop the basic client/server applications.
