Distributed and Cloud Computing: Home

Distributed computing is a model in which components of a software system are shared among multiple computers to improve efficiency and performance.

Introduction

Study of Cloud Computing is becoming an essential part of computing curriculum with the emergence of new service & deployment models in cloud computing. This course gives students a theoretical foundation and hands-on experience with the various technologies of the cloud computing paradigm. Cloud computing is the delivery of computing as a service, whereby distributed resources are provided by appropriate service suppliers and leased, rather than owned, by an end user as a utility over a network. The course is divided into two parts. First part is designed to give introduction to the distributed computing, distributed communication, cloud computing, architecture, virtualization, design and management of cloud computing. Second part of the course explores advanced research topics in the area of distributed systems, grid and cloud computing.

Course Objective

The objective of this course is to enable students to clearly understand the concepts of cloud computing and its design. The goal of this class is for students to develop an in-depth understanding of classical and current research in cloud computing. This course consists of both class room lectures by the instructor and the research seminars by the students. In the first half length of the course, it is lectures based and then in the second half it is research based. It is based on research papers that have strong impact on the current cloud computing development. We will study existing mechanisms and will explore new and novel ideas. It will cover important core issues of cloud computing, distributed computing, data centers, virtualization, cloud management and cloud security.
