The Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) is the professional society for biomedical engineering and bioengineering. Founded in early 1968, the Society now boasts nearly 6,500 members and is growing, rapidly.
BMES serves as the lead society and professional home for biomedical engineering and bioengineering. Our leadership in accreditation, potential licensure, publications, scientific meetings, global programs, and diversity initiatives, as well as our commitment to ethics, all serve our mission to promote and enhance knowledge and education in biomedical engineering and bioengineering worldwide and its utilization for human health and well-being.
MIT's student chapter of the Biomedical Engineering Society was founded in 1995 by three MIT seniors who saw the need for a student organization dedicated to providing students with research, employment, and educational opportunities in biomedical engineering.
The Biomedical Engineering Society serves to bring knowledge to its members concerning the advancement of biomedical research and technology in the medical field. It also exists as a forum for discussion among the MIT community who would like share ideas or opinions. Meetings shall promote interests through activities such as lectures, presentations, tours, and social activities.
Biomedical science includes any course of scientific study related to biology as it affects health care. It includes classes such as physiology, anatomy, epidemiology, biochemistry, nutrition and kinesiology. Biomedical sciences are the foundation of knowledge for all health care professionals.
It’s a team blog written by two professional science writers from the Duke Office of News and Communications, and a crew of undergraduate work-study students who watch the campus for interesting events, personalities and projects. There’s an occasional guest post too.
