This course will introduce students to a significant body of philosophical literature on the principles of correct reasoning, will introduce students to the questions, methods and approaches of the discipline of logic, and will emphasize balanced argument and critical thought.
This course will discuss the forms and functions of language, theories of deductive logic, and inductive methods. The course will emphasize on the skills of understanding complex materials by analyzing their logical structures, and the skills of constructing clear and convincing arguments by following the basic logical principles.
Everyone you meet, including your professors, will at some point try to get you to believe or do or say something. More annoyingly, they may try to take something from you, or even more offensively, try to force something upon you. The question always is, why? We usually, though not always, want some good reason to believe in something, or upon which to base our actions or words before we believe, do or say those things.
