Course Description

Course Objectives

The internees will be given an understanding of Psychopharmacology and Pharmacokinetics to include routes of Drug Administration; Drug Absorption, Distribution and Metabolism; Pharmacokinetic Principles, and Prescription etc

Course Outcome

At the end of the course, internees are expected to identify current Pharmacological Medications to include basic classifications, indications, therapeutic effects, side-effects, and contraindications for usage in the following disorders: Unipolar Depression, Bipolar Depression, Anxiety Disorders, Psychotic Disorders (schizophrenia), Disorders of Attention, and Personality Disorders. The internees will be able to demonstrate their understanding of the importance of collaboration with health care professionals, family and social networks in the management of pharmacological treatment of the patient.

1. Classification of Drugs and their Effects on Behaviour

2. Major Classification, Sub Classification, nature of the drug and its effect on the human behaviour. Major Drug Classification of drug is as follow:

a. Neuroleptics and other Anti-Psychotic Drugs

b. Major and Minor Tranquilizers

c. Barbiturates

d. Analgesics

e. Stimulants

f. Anti-Depressants

g. Narcotic and other Addictive Substances

h. Hallucinogens

3. Drug Action in Nervous System

a. Drug Action in Nervous System

b. The Interaction of Various Drugs with Nervous System.
