Financial Management: Course outline (FIN-411)

Course description

Finance is the art and science of managing capital.  Virtually all individuals and organizations earn, raise, spend or invest capital and the study of Finance provides a consistent framework for financial decision making by these agents.  This course is intended to be an introduction to the basic concepts and practices of Finance with a special emphasis on the Pakistan financial system.  A fairly wide range of topics will be covered to give you a “feel” for what Finance is, and what it is not.  This course involves the evaluation of a firm’s financial situation, the determination of its short-term and long-term financial needs.   The various forms of capital structure and its impact on the financial viability of the company will be studied.  Technical aspects of the course will include calculation of the net present value, weighted cost of capital and the cost of equity. 

The students should be able to discuss the current financial problems, opportunities, trends regarding overall financial markets; money as well as capital markets
