Course description

 

This is a field-based practice that enables students to demonstrate teaching skills and get immediate feedback from the supervisors. This is, in fact, a preparation for actual classroom practice. Empowered by the knowledge and strategies for teaching, together with their internal motivation for professional renewal and advancement, teacher students can hopefully develop their means and improve the quality of teaching which in turn will bring great benefit to classroom teaching and learning. Classroom teaching and observation will provide opportunity to apply linguistic theories to the teaching of English.

  • Internalize traits of a good English teacher.
  • Overcome the weaknesses that may hamper their professional growth.

Procedure

The Head of Department will seek the consent of the school heads to use their classes for training purposes. Students are divided into groups and allotted schools along with a faculty member as supervisor. The school heads accommodate the trainees into their regular schedules of teaching. The trainees teach, interact with peers and regular teachers, discuss their problems with the supervisors, learn class management skills and have the experience of actual classroom practice. They also groom and adjust themselves in the school environment. The supervisors observe the classes of the trainees and have post-lesson discussions. Finally, they award grades based on their assessments of the trainees.
