Course Description


This course explores normal and disordered processes associated with the larynx and voice,
resonance, and fluency. Potential pathologies are identified, and their appropriate medical
and behavioral assessments and treatments are discussed. Teachings focus on the clinical
application of the material.

  • Anatomy and Physiology of the laryngeal apparatus.
  • Introduction, Etiologies of Voice Disorders, & Other Considerations
  •  Vocal health, QOL Questionnaire, Auditory training for voice disorders via Voice sample recordings.
  •  Diagnosis and Evaluation
  • Introduction to Voice Therapy
  • Benign Lesions, Vocal Fatigue, & Associated Factors
  • Muscle Tension Dysphonia & Voice Disorders Related to Self and Identity
  •  Neurologic & Systemic/Inflammatory Conditions: Evaluation & Management
  • VCD/Chronic Cough & Breathing Disorders
  • Laryngeal Cancer

Learning Outcomess

  • Understand the anatomy, physiology, and neurology involved in normal voice production, resonance & Fluency.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the classification, characteristics, pathophysiology, and etiologies of voice and resonance disorders and fluency disorders.
  •  Apply key concepts of different diagnostic test interpretations based on cognitive& behavior
  •  Evaluate and synthesize theoretical perspectives and research findings on voice resonance & fluency disorders
  • Proficiently apply, assess, and interpret tools for assessing voice, resonance, and fluency
  • Evaluate & synthesize the rehabilitation plan with cognitive goals and behavioral goals
