Pharmacology focuses on the molecular and cellular mechanisms whereby therapeutic drugs, or other pharmacologically or toxicologically active compounds interact with biological, particularly human, systems. This year-long course covers the general principles of drug action, including drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, elimination, pharmcokinetics, and pharmacodynamics of important therapeutic drug categories. For each drug category, the course emphasizes: selected prototype drugs, molecular mechanisms of action, pharmacokinetic properties, therapeutics, adverse effects contra-indications and drug-drug interactions.
