With over 9,000 members around the world, the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society focuses on fabricated integrated circuit designs -- in contrast to simulated circuits and analyzed models-- for all applications using relevant materials and interconnections. The Society produces the Journal of Solid-State Circuits (JSSC), the most downloaded technical journal in IEEE Xplore, and sponsors the International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC), the world's premier circuits realization conference. The roots of the Society go back to the launch of the ISSCC in 1955, and the debut of the JSSC in 1966 as an archive of major presentations from conferences, expanded into journal length papers. Soon afterward, the leadership of the ISSC and JSSC formally became a Council comprised of all IEEE societies contributing to the field of integrated circuits.

Computer Hardware Society was established recently it doesn’t have a history of its own. But it has a steady background. It is backed-up by a recognized organization called a Vocational Training Centre – Dehiwala which is affiliated to the National Youth Service Council. As briefly introduced in the introduction society is composed of the passed out students of the Diploma in Computer Hardware with Network which is conducted by the Vocational Training Centre – Dehiwala.

It is pursuing its efforts to provide technical, professional and logistic assistance to its members; to highlight the issues and problems faced by them and following up with the authorities for redressing their grievances and getting a result on board. To establish close liaison with federal government authorities for effective representation on behalf of the IT business community on any matter connected with the IT business and services; to elect or nominate members to represent PCA on any local and public forum; to hold seminars, workshops and conferences relating to IT trade and industry and services in the country; to establish IT training and skill enhancement centers for youths and adults for the promotion of IT education and knowledge in the educational and vocational institutions including schools, colleges, institutes, and university etc.

Its main statutory functions include registration of engineers, consulting engineers, constructors/operators and accreditation of engineering programmes offered by universities/institutions, ensuring and managing of continuing professional development, assisting the Federal Government as Think Tank, establishing standards for engineering products and services besides safeguarding the interest of its members. The council shall encourage, facilitate and regulate working of professional engineering bodies for creativity and as custodians of engineering under the umbrella of the Council.
