Course description & objectives

Course description: This course will introduce Precision measurements terminologies, principles of different measurement techniques, types of bridges for measurement of resistance, inductance, and capacitance, temperature sensor, ultrasonic sensor, flow/pressure sensor, accelerometer for vibration and speed, LDR Sensor, Motion Sensor construction and working of different analog and digital converters, Stepper, DC and AC motor drives, data acquisition systems, introduction to PLC, power and energy meters, high-voltage measurements.

Course objectives: The goal of the course is to give the student knowledge and experience to select and design simple measurement systems for a given application, based on different physical measurement principles, modeling, simulation, and error analysis. The main Course Learning Outcomes (CLO) of the subject is given below:

  • CLO1: Recognize different types of bridge circuits for different applications. (C1)

  • CLO2: Explain the parameters required for the operation of different types of sensors. (C2)

  • CLO3: Apply different techniques to implement ADC and DAC convertors. (C3)

  • CLO4: Follow a new technique to design a controlled system using sensors. (P2)
