Literary Criticism I & II: Societies & Associations

English Literary Society is a society of English Literature enthusiasts in IIT Kanpur. The society conduts literary activities in the campus throughout the year.The main focus of the society is to see people being as comfortable with English as they are with Hindi, Telugu, Bengali, or other languages.

The English Literary Association has its beginnings in 1896 as one of the first co-curricular activities initiated within the college. Fondly named the “E.L.A”, this club has since its inception, gone on to uplift the English literary standards within the student population of Royal College. In the recent past, the E.L.A has gone on to revive projects such as the Vijitha Weerasignhe Memorial Trophy which has gone onto become a prominent debating tournament within the debating circuit of Colombo. Also, new avenues have been discovered such as the “Model United Nations” which has become an important event in the club’s agenda.

The English Literary Society at King’s is open to all students and is about making the most out of the literary and cultural events that London has to offer. Whether you are studying a traditional literature pathway at King's, or are just wish to supplement your degree with your love of literature, Lit Soc is the place for you.
