Science of Dental Materials: Associations

The Pakistan Dental Association is an organization of dentists which has as its aim the encouragement of the health of the public and the promotion of the art and science of dentistry. There are Branches of the Association in all States and a Provisional Branch in the Northern Territory. Membership is voluntary and over 90% of dentists in Pakistan are members. This membership implies an obligation for members to practice their profession in accordance with the high standards laid down by the Association.

This American Dental Association tells our story and highlights how the ADA has always been a patient-centered, science-based and ethically-driven association. It captures the ADA's spirit and what the ADA strives to be. Founded in 1859, the not-for-profit American Dental Association is the nation's largest dental association, representing more than 157,000 dentist members.

The International Association for Dental Research (IADR), headquartered in Alexandria, Va. USA, is a nonprofit organization with nearly 12,000 members worldwide. Its mission is : (1) to advance research and increase knowledge for the improvement of oral health worldwide; (2) to support and represent the oral health research community; and (3) to facilitate the communication and application of research findings.

The Academy of Dental Materials was founded in 1941 as a consortium of dental professionals who were interested in the development and application of new materials to dental care.

The objectives of the Academy are:

1. To provide a forum for the exchange of information on all aspects of dental materials;
2. To enhance communication between industry, researchers and practicing dentists;
3. To encourage dental materials research and its applications;
4. And to promote dental materials through its activities.
